Circle of the Africa Moon

Wicca, like any religion has its pitfalls. However there is no such thing as a Wiccan pope. There are however charismatic and charming folk who prey on the vulnerable and weak. It is your responsibility as a querant to inform yourself about what Wicca is and what it is not. If you rely on being spoon fed, then you will be preyed upon. Irresponsible, egotistical and gullible requests to ‘join’ covens often results in unfortunate and unpleasant experiences. There are good Wiccans out there and bad Wiccans, good witches and bad witches, good mages and bad.

If you come to Wicca because you are disenchanted with your previous religious background, and simply want to replace one religious system with another, you will be equally disillusioned. Those that come to Wicca because they seek power will find it – but it is only power over the weak.

The ‘magick’ of Wicca resides in its mysteries, in the ebb and flow of the rhythms of life, and deep ritual connection, not in its spell craft.

You have the right to ask your prospective ‘teacher’, coven head, group leader etc their credentials. You have the further right to question those credentials. Should someone not oblige you with these details then you should move on. Question, question question; read, read, read.

Wicca is a mystery religion, and as such its mystical aspect can only be experienced. However, the 'knowledge' component features strongly. It is necessary to show oneself approved and as such the Elders of CAM take very seriously the discipline, academic portfolio, and syllabus deemed necessary to become a priest or priestess of the Craft of the Wise. Serving as such will require guidance and mentorship, and Circle of the African Moon offers the necessary guidelines in the Circle's lineage.
