My name is Heidi Beckett I was born and grew up in JHB. I am married to Ian, whom I meet at high school. I feel that I am the type of person that gets things done. I tend to also be very quiet and will only say something when it is required and after considerable thought (I am a listener and not a talker.)
December 1994, we went on holiday to Cape Town where we fell in love with the Cape and within a few months had moved there, and have loved living here and making it our new home.
In 1999 I fell pregnant with “Raven Song” and she was born on the14 July 2000. My life changed, for the better I would say. My second Child, Petal was born on the 4 October 2004. (I will call her Petal for now as I would prefer her to choose a magical name for herself as “Raven Song” has done). These two girls are my pride and joy. Ever since they were born I seem to have discovered that it is okay to be and feel like a little child again, finding myself and seeing things through a Childs eye, and what a difference that makes to life.
A few years ago Ian was looking for “something more” and did some research on the net and found Circle of the African Moon, and others. CAM for some reason stood out from the others so we sent an email to Donna to see if we could find out more about Paganism. We received a very prompt email back, letting us know when the next Ritual would be. We attended the Ritual as a family and what made things easier for me was that we were accepted as a family. (There are some times that the kids cannot attend Rituals and that I am sure you can understand.) Ian did 101 with Donna and was very impressed with this and then did his 102. My interest grew when people would talk about things and I felt I did not have the knowledge or understanding of these topics and could not comment. I then did my 101 and really enjoyed it also made some good friends. A few months later I did 102 and that was also a very good course to attend. Since completing these two courses, I feel that I have grown as a person, but still know there is a lot to be learnt and to be understood.
My vision for the Cape Town region is for a place where like-minded people can feel at home, laugh and learn together. |
